Commission
Had a really satisfying moment art wise yesterday, I delivered a commissioned piece (Q series style) to the clients house. It was very gratifying to be there when the whole family was introduced to the finished piece. The unexpected best part for me was that I now know where my painting will sit. Sounds strange, but often I really miss the paintings when they are sold. I guess this comes down to...

Art update
A very productive week. I have a piece in the “She Who Can” art prize at the Walker St Gallery, Dandenong, working on my fourth piece to add to the “Q Series” for the walls of a local restaurant, my Archibald entry of Mary-Anne Fahey is now in Sydney, ready for judging and hopefully inclusion in the prize and lastly celebrating the successful first exhibition of the...

Typical art week
On the look out for my next scratchboard piece. I really miss this medium when I havent got one on the go. Have finished my next Archibald entry of Mary-Anne Fahey and will post pic when she has seen it.
Meanwhile am still painting pieces of light hearted stuff in my other persona of cafe artist so I can change over works currently held in a local cafe. Yes, I know this is shamefully commercial,...

Archibald portrait 2012
Having decided that I don’t like the first painting that I did, I have started another. So far okay, but it’s probably better to give myself a couple of months to d this rather than weeks. Will post it here when I’ve finished.

Definition of success
How do you define the success of a piece of your work. Do you judge success as sales, or by the amount of !!!!s that’s your admirers post on your website?
I have a completely different definition of success. If I feel the emotion of the work as it is being done or when I look at it, then it is a success. I always strive for a strong dialogue between me and the piece. That’s all...

Renesmee finished
Now done but. I will post in a day or so after I have varnished it. Success also in making a light box to get a decent pic of my scratchboard work.
I’ve just been accepted as an active member of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists as well so I definitely have to do a better job of taking pics.

Scratchy thoughts
Not too happy with the grimaces bought out when I mention work on scratchboard. Good and bad art can be made on any medium, don’t be too hasty to pre-judge a conceptual contemporary piece just because it has been done on a traditional craft-like medium.
I prefer to think of scratchboard as etching without chemicals, mind you I am feeling unwell from inhaling ammonia whilst cleaning the...

I walk the line.
not about the song title, in making sketches and scratches I am making and walking the line. I think this would be a good name for an exhibition when I finish this series of works.
You get what you expect.
I found this quote in an art mag today and it resonated with me. I have decided to expect the best from myself.

Canvas sizing
I’ve just prepared my first batch of rabbit skin glue to add to my canvas.
The full cycle in my art
ive been enjoying the reclaiming of old canvasses by re-stretching them , but now I want to start from a point of making my own frames through to painting on them. I see it as a full journey and it connects me with the piece in a way that I dont seem to get with a bought canvas.
Odd thoughts
ive been thinking over how I can improve my latest portrait. Nothing came to mind, so I think I might do ‘paper, rock, scissors, Spock ’ with myself and see who wins.
Studio
A magnificent day because I can hit the studio without having to be anywhere else today.
